Ira B. Liss, standing at 6 feet 7 inches tall, is Southern California's most watchable bandleader, leading San Diego’s favorite Big Band: The Ira B. Liss Big Band Jazz Machine, an 18-piece jazz orchestra he founded in 1979.

His performance credits include collaborations with world-renowned artists such as Vince Gill, Bobby Caldwell, and Harry Connick, Sr., among many others. He has also worked with prominent figures in the Pacific Rim Jazz scene, contributing to the vibrant culture of jazz in the region.
